2009: HAMLET

The Cast & Crew of Hamlet 2009
Focusing on the pool of acting talent available to ACDC, we performed a gimmick free, and unusually interpreted version of “Hamlet”. This production, which showed the ability of Shakespeare to bring out comedy, tragedy, and romance all in one play was performed in the YMCA All Island Inter- School Shakespeare Drama Competition as well as the Cambridge University International Examinations, Trinity College London and Alethea International School’s Island Inter School Shakespeare Drama Competition (which was organized for the 1st time in Sri Lanka in 2009). The production saw one of our actors being nominated in the “Best Actor” category, and both our actors playing female roles being nominated for “Best Actress”, beating various girls playing female roles at the latter competition.

2008: CORIOLANUS

The Cast and Crew of Coriolanus 2008
A visually stunning and spiritedly acted out performance of “Coriolanus” in 2008, proved that Drama at Ananda College was fast growing into dominant force, able to challenge any of the schools experienced in the drama arena in Sri Lanka.

2007: MACBETH

Tha Cast and Crew of Macbeth 2007
The ACDC took on one of Shakespeare’s most celebrated plays in 2007, with its unusual depiction of “Macbeth”. The play which brought out the complex internal battle within a military general’s mind, stood out among many of its contemporaries, and also earned a nomination for one of our actors in the category of “Best Actor”.

2006: TIMON OF ATHENS

The Cast of Timon of Athens

The Ananda College Drama Circle made its entry to the School Drama and Theatre arena of Sri Lanka in style, with its performance of “Timon of Athens” a lesser known and rarely done work of Shakespeare. This daring production announced the emergence of a new force in Sri Lankan school drama, and hinted at greater feats to follow.
